Michalis Savvas: Interview to Hotel & Restaurant for the luxury Melograno Villas

Michalis Savvas, the owner of Melograno Villas, talked to Isavela Zampetaki  & Hotel & Restaurant for the luxury villas. Enjoy his interview below:

What are the key architectural and decorative features that characterize your villa?

When we envisioned Melograno Villas we had no intention to add just another hotel. Inspired by the top tourist destinations in the country, we decided to create something different with unique design and high quality services, to advertise the Astypalaia of the dream and the romance as an international destination. The construction proved to be a challenge, but the result justifies us, combining traditional elements with modern architecture. We used local techniques and materials, which perfectly blend with the view of the Castle of Chora and we decorated and equipped the interiors of the villa with top products of international companies. Indicatively, many of our furniture have the signature of Philippe Starck, the kitchens have Smeg equipment and the tiles are of Bati Orient.

At what levels are your villas associated with the region?

We want to guide our guests so they live a tailor-made experience according to their preferences during their holiday. We arrange from private cruises to secluded beaches and scuba diving to romantic dinners at selected restaurants and participation in traditional festivals. There is also the possibility for traditional cooking classes by our chef in the kitchen of each villa. We truly believe in the visitor living the local experiences-from visiting the farmer who supplies us with fresh milk, to going fishing with the local fisherman at dawn. Our philosophy is that you can find beautiful hotels in many places. The point here is to love Astypalaia.

What are your goals through your investment?

Through advertising Melograno, we try to promote Astypalaia as a destination at the same time. In collaboration with other hotels, we try to promote the island through both paper and online advertising, as well as with our participation in tourism exhibitions. In recent years foreign visitors have been greatly increased. While before, the 80% of our customers were Greeks, the corresponding figure today is around 60%. What is important is that we attract quality tourism from many European countries and that, gradually, new markets, such as the Scandinavian, get to know us. Our aim is to expand the tourist season.
