Traditional Greek Easter in Mani

Traditional Greek Easter in Mani

On Easter, we visit Mani not only for its beautiful blooming nature, but also for the special customs of the region, that will offer us magical experiences. Enjoy them!

One of the most distinctive Easter traditions of Mani is kneading. On Holy Thursday, housewives knead traditional breads, and the secret of their success is the dough.

On Good Friday, follow the procession of the Epitaph in Areopolis, New Itilo, Karavostasi and Gerolimenas, in a solemn atmosphere. The evening of the Ressurection, watch the magnificent spectacle of fireworks in the sky of Mani. Visit Leonidio, for a special Easter experience ... The residents and guests of Leonidio, after the Resurrecion, set free thousands of colored balloons. The luminous and colorful air-balloons are released to the sky with an aim to “reach as close to God as possible”. The air-balloons look like stars as they go up to the sky and it is very nice to look at them as they slowly disappear one by one. At the same time, fireworks and fire-crackers compliment the whole spectacle which will bewilder the visitor.
