The architect of Ananti City Resort talks about the unique design of the hotel!

Situated in a prime position on the Logkaki hill in Trikala, at one of the highest points of the area and with panoramic views over the plain of Thessaly, Ananti City Resort impresses the visitor with its modern architecture. We talked to Sotiris Samalis, the architect and decorator of the hotel and we learned everything about the wonderful Ananti. Georgina Bousia, a graduate of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki also participated in the design of the hotel.

What is the concept of the creation of Ananti City Resort?

The initial idea was to design and construct a modern building fully in harmony with its natural environment. The overall morphology of the building deliberately follows  the contour lines of the hill and for this reason the building fits perfectly to the environment, maintaining the crest of the hill untouched. The simplicity of the composition is interrupted by the obvious and deliberately toned floor plates that extend to the horizon, an element that is the central point of the architectural composition.

The facades of the building, that consist of large windows, give a modern character to the hotel. Also, the reflections of the light fully harmonize the building with the natural environment.

What materials were used for the hotel?

The base material of the building is concrete. However, a large part of the building  is 'dressed' with the same stone obtained from the excavation during construction. For the interiors we used granite, wood for the floors and plaster for the walls.

How is the building developed?

The building is developed on five levels, following hill. The facilities of the hotel are located at points of contact with the hill and within it, while the main rooms (rooms, restaurant, conference center) are situated at the opposite point with wide openings to the breathtaking view of the Meteora rocks.

The breakfast room, spa and indoor heated pool have been placed on the first level. The underground car park, kitchens and nine of the eighteen rooms on the second, while the other rooms and the reception are in the third level. The fourth level hosts a modern and fully equipped conference center, while the café restaurant is located in the fifth and final level. Both outdoor pools are located on the same level, one for adults and one for children, as well as the pool bar.

What is the relationship between the building and its surroundings?

The building was placed with special attention to this part of the hill, taking advantage of the slope and avoiding any competition with the landscape. In this way the building sits quietly and on the hillside acquiring dialogue with it and with respect to the pine forest that stretches to the ridge. Moreover, 5,000 trees were planted in the rest of the hill, after a study conducted by the landscape architect Helen Karakozoglou.

What is the purpose of the hotel’s decoration?

The decor of the hotel, with the significant contribution and personal taste of the owners, serves two important purposes: it follows the lines of the building showcasing the architecture and it creates a warm and homely environment for the visitors.
