The first Museum of Greek Gastronomy opens soon

The inauguration of the Museum of Greek Gastronomy is expected to take place during the summer season and it is going to be a place of interest for tourists who wish to be acquainted with the history, the culture and the nutritional values of the Greek diet.

The Museum will be a pole of attraction for visitors who would like to find out about Greek foods of high quality, through a voyage within Greek nature, as well as through the production processes and the culinary methods.

Tours in the Museum of Greek Gastronomy will be organized in small groups and guided by trained staff in the language of preference. The exhibits are comprised by traditional folk objects, as well as photographic and audiovisual material.

Besides the exhibition, there is also going to be a restaurant where the visitor will have the possibility to taste Greek recipes cooked with ingredients exhibited at the Museum. In addition, there will be a specially designated area for cooking lessons and a bookshop offering a selection of books on Greek gastronomy and wines. Last but not least, the visitors will have a chance to do some food shopping of traditional Greek ingredients they liked during their tour, at the food shop within the museum.

 

The Museum of Gastronomy has a wider aim of educating visitors on the Greek culinary arts, as well as teaching them how to induct it into their everyday eating habits.

The products exhibited, represent a wide range of the Greek gastronomy spectrum and are carefully selected with quality as their major criterion. Some of the products that will be exhibited, are: Olives – olive oil, Olive products, Pasta, Bakery, Herbs & Spices, Mushrooms – Truffle, Snails, Fish roe, Mastic, Wines, Beers, Distilled beverages, Honey and honey-made products, Sun-dried products, Side ingredients, Sea foods, a variety of Greek tidbits, Greek coffee, Beverages, Traditional pastry & sweets, Cheeses, Meats & Cold cuts, Yoghurt and others.

The opening of the first Museum of Greek Gastronomy is soon expected and it will be hosted in a neoclassical building in the Athenian quarter of Psiri.
