Melenos Lindos hotel review on Telegraph by Marissa Tejada

Melenos Lindos, precious member of Trésor Hotels & Resorts on Rhodes, features on the prestigious Telegraph. Read the hotel review by travel writer Marissa Tejada.

"Melenos Lindos – set on the hill below one of Greece’s ancient and historic fortified cities – combines sweeping sea views, luxury amenities and bespoke boutique design that pays respect to the colours, creativity and beauty of the Lindos’ Ottoman past.

Location

The Melenos Lindos is terraced down a slope in Lindos which ensures striking Aegean Sea views, and also set on a stone path road leading to the coastal village’s main attraction, the Acropolis of Lindos. Turn left from the main entrance for a 15-minute walk up to the ancient and historic sight. Also steps away in the other direction is Lindos’ beautiful maze of lanes lined with shops, churches, rooftop bars and restaurants. Through the back gate, the sparkling Pallas Beach is a 15-minute walk down a stone path and further west is Lindos Beach.

Style & character

Every corner is a tribute to the colours, art, style and tradition of 17th-century Lindian architecture, heavily influenced by the Ottoman Empire. Spaces are enriched with hand-carved stone façades, elaborate woodwork, hand-painted ceramics and ceilings, intricate weavings and impressive medieval-style tents. The entire property is designed like a village within Lindos village where blooming flowers, tumbling vines, small fruit trees and beautiful fountains line walking paths intricately set in traditional pebbled mosaic flooring.

Service & facilities

Melenos Lindos has attentive service on all levels from guest arrival, room service and dining. The award-winning gourmet restaurant Melenos is set on an atmospheric pebbled mosaic terrace overlooking the sea. The breakfast area is located in another dining space, also making excellent use of the hotel’s prime sea view location. Services include pre-arranged dinner upon arrival, sailing and island day tours, helicopter services and private airport transfer. Due to the hotel’s perched and tucked-away location in the warren of Lindos’ cobbled, sloped streets, staff arrange a guest meet and greet at the village square (130 yards) for easy check-in and luggage transfer.

Rooms

Standard suites are comfortably furnished and include fluffy bath robes, lounging cotton robes, Coco-Mat lounging slippers, beach towels, O.Live bath products and coffee and tea facilities. Outdoor seating and lounging areas are decorated with fragrant potted flowers and trees. Bathrooms feature waterfall showers.

The Honeymoon Suite is a large cave-like room brightened by romantic décor and style redolent of the Ottoman era: think handmade wall tapestries, teakwood closets, intricately carved doors and windows, vintage furniture and a cosy seating area. The shower space features a large waterfall shower and seating area designed to look like a traditional Ottoman hammam, complete with a marble sink and adorned with hand painted in Ottoman-Iznik

Food & drink

Melenos is an award-winning restaurant set in what is likely the most romantic rooftop location in Lindos. The seasonally inspired menu features a range of Mediterranean dishes including a cool spinach and rocket salad topped with strawberries, ricotta and Aegina nuts. A fantastic main includes Melenos’ grilled lamb cutlets served on a bed of mashed artichokes with feta cubes.

The Garden Area serves as a cocktail lounge area, perfect for sunset drinks. In the morning, an à la carte breakfast is served here including freshly made savoury Greek style pittas, bread with homemade honey and jam, freshly prepared Greek desserts, coffee and freshly-squeezed orange juice. Additional menu choices include a range of Greek-style egg dishes, grilled sandwiches and fresh yoghurt and cereal.
