Hollywood chooses Greece!

Hollywood chooses Greece!

Hollywood seems to be choosing Greece over and over again for the shooting of significant films. The breathtaking locations, the superb beaches and the best shade of blue, as well as the ample natural light have been the main reasons for which producers select Greece as the ideal movie setting.

Let’s have a look at some of the lucky areas across the country:

Mama Mia: islands of Skiathos and Skopelos

A superb and very romantic movie with Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan in the protagonist roles and uplifting musics by ABBA, surrounded  by the most beautiful font of blue.

Lara Croft, Tomb Raider, The Cradle of Life: island of Santorini

Just the presence of actress Angelina Jolie on the island during the shooting of the film, was enough to make the island internationally known…even more than it was already.

Captain Corelli's Mandolin: island of Cephalonia & Sami

A very popular and emotional movie starring Nicolas Cage and Penelope Cruz shot in the beautiful setting of the Ionian Sea and the stunning island of Cephalonia.

Before Midnight: Peloponnese

Directed by Richard Linklater and staring Ethan Hawke and Zily Delpy, the movie was shot at the wider region of the Peloponesian peninsula showing its inner beauty and rich nature.

Other known films which were shot in Greek territory with the font of gorgeous Greek landscapes, are “the Big Blue” shot on the island of Amorgos starring Rosanna Arquette and “Mediterraneo” shot on the island of Kastelorizo with Vana Barba in the protagonist role.

It is more than certain that the international movie industry has in many cases selected Greece for partial shootings too, showing special preference to the Greek islands. Rumors have it that the sequel of Sex and the City: the Movie will be shot in the wider region of Mani in the Peloponnese.

If you are staying in tonight, select one of the movies above and elongate your summer mood for the perfect ending to September. They say that the weather changes as of tomorrow with the first autumn rains making their appearance…
