It’s 'raining' wishes for the New Year tonight...(literally)
What an impressive way to enter the new year...Between today and the 5th of January we will be lucky enough to witness a climax of “shooting stars” in the night sky.
This particular rain of shooting stars takes its name after the Quadrans Muralis constellation, which has, however, seized to exist.
In other similar cases of meteor showers, we have counted as many as 40 falling meteoroids per hour, although there have been recorded cases of as many as 120 falling meteoroids per hour in certain regions.
Scientifically speaking about this magnificent spectacle in the night sky, astronomists do not seem to be certain which comet exactly is causing the phenomenon. Possibly we are talking about a comet that was first spotted by Chinese, Japanese and Korean astronomers back in 1490. For us, it is enough to know that as a comet orbits the Sun it sheds an icy, dusty debris stream along its orbit. If Earth travels through this stream, then we see a meteor shower. And this is exactly what is happening this time round!
It is not necessary to know exactly why and precisely how...Just find yourself a nice dark spot, away from the glow of the city lights and look up to the night sky. Now is the chance to make as many wishes as you can for the New Year!
