The North Face Zagori Mountain Running: Zagori welcomes the leading Greek mountain running race on 22-24 July

The North Face Zagori Mountain Running, the most populous mountain race in Greece, is coming to Zagori between the 22nd and 24th of July 2016.

The reasons that made and make this race unique and so popular are many. In terms of pure racing, athletes of all levels can find a match for their abilities. With distances of 10 to 80 km and with an increasing level of difficulty, no one will be disappointed. By adding, a children’s race, it is possible for entire families to take part in this celebration occuring every year on the last weekend of July.

Athletes from Greece and all around the world will have the chance to take part in the really demanding race of T.E.RA, an Ultra Trail Running Race, spanning 80 kilometres with an elevation gain of more than 5100 meters. It starts at 04:45 am, the completion limit is set to 21 hours from the start and has four intermediate elimination points. The Marathon of 42 km., the Half Marathon of 21 km. and the Entry Race of 10 km. will also take place.

Besides the racing part, the race is unique because of its tracks. Zagori is renowned worldwide for its nature but also for its unique achievements of local people. The Vikos Gorge with its rare beauty is the deepest canyon in the world, according to the Guinness book of records . Voidomatis, characterized as one of the cleanest rivers in Europe, will cool the competitors with its crystal clear waters. The 9 of the 46 villages of Zagori through which, pass the routes of the four races, stand proudly and untouched by time, offering visitors the experience of life of old Zagoria and all modern amenities. The stone bridges, a trademark of Zagoria are landmarks but also orientation points for sportsmen and sportswomen.
