Ananti City Resort: A reason to spend a long weekend in Trikala

When you plan a visit to Trikala, one thing you know for sure; You will enjoy a lot of tasty, traditional food. Upon arrival, my stay to a resort of those you know you will want to go back to was added to my perception of Trikala.

Ananti City Resort, a member of Trésor Hotels & Resorts is a newly built hotel, located at one of the most privileged spots of the region. We meet it in a distance far enough from the city and if you are lucky enough to reach it before sunset, you will soon realize why; Built on a hillside at the outskirts of Trikala, with awesome views to the glorious plains of Thessaly, from there, your eyes will only see green.

It is there, at Loggaki hill, where I spent a long weekend.

Besides, I was at a short distance from the famous tourist destinations such as Meteora, Pertouli, Elati and Lake Plastira while enjoying indulgent services at the hotel’s elegant atmosphere. What is best than some sudden holidays?

Simple architectural lines, a rare view you won’t get enough of, a modern design in every room, a spa with an indoor pool ideal for pampering, and everything well organized by a youthful personnel, always trying to be discreetly near you with a smile on their face.

Oltre Bar Restaurant is the highlight of the hotel. It is located in the final level of Ananti, offering the most beautiful views of the city of Trikala. It is a strictly non smoking area, while in outer space there is a large swimming pool with one more bar.

We basically taste Mediterranean cuisine that does not lack in local specialties. Dinner is accompanied by a small but elegant wine list, and there is of course a bar where one finds an ideal company of great spirits.

Breakfast is also noted as a plus, with a rich buffet you may not be enjoying it with the same breathtaking views, but offering everything you wish from a Greek breakfast. Homemade jams and spoon sweets, several selections in yogurt, omelets with eggs and local sausages, fresh pancakes and freshly squeezed juices, everything creates a perfect start of the day. Beyond that, you have two choices: to go to a full-service spa or explore the surrounding area.  Whatever you choose, the sure if you will have a wonderful stay at "city" hotel in the province, which offers a panoramic view even from its rooms.

What to see/What to do:

Varousi  is a good opportunity for walks in the city. There you will see the Turkish houses of the old quarter, mainly built in the 17th and 18th centuries, in irregular shapes, with the upper floors protruded and painted in bright colors. Few are those have been restored and renovated while the whole district has been declared as preservable. Indeed, the famous Greek “rebetis” Tsitsanis was referring in these narrow streets, at his song that says "In Trikala, in the narrow streets, Sakaflias was killed ...".

- After Varousi you will reach the Fort gate, the hallmark of the city. You will need to climb up countless steps, but the panting is worthwhile.

- The plain lines of Trikala favored the development of cycling and now a lot of people are using their bikes.

- Do not miss the opportunity to stroll alongside the river. Bicycles continue to come and go, the groups in the pedestrian zone continue to laugh and romantic souls still stare at the flowing water.

- If you feel like going on an excursion, remember that you are very close to Elati village. Literally drowned in firs, at an altitude of 900 meters, Elati looks like a fairy tale and is a destination that is increasingly growing in the recent years.

- On the way from Elati to Pertouli you will see horses running in the green. As for the ski center is concerned, you will see children with red cheeks and caps staring at the ski instructor with wide open eyes, while experienced skiers dressed in colorful clothes descend the slopes in style. Of course, there is also a chalet for those who do not have an appetite for mountain activities.

- If time and mood allows, you can drive a 20 kilometers distance in order to reach Meteora, the imposing complex of massive rocks formed by erosion of a large mass of stone, sand and mud when the waters of the Thessaly lagoon poured in the Aegean centuries ago. We capture Meteora with dozens clicks in our camera and admire the second largest monastery complex in Greece ( Holy Mountain is the first). Six monasteries are still in operation and since 1988 they are among the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

- Before you leave, take a walk until Raxa village to take a close look to the famous distillery and winery of Tsililis company.
