“DEMONS”: The remake of the revolutionary rock opera, 22 years later

Premiere tomorrow in Pallas Theater, for singer and show-woman Anna Vissi in the most peculiar role of her career.

The famous rock operaDaimones” (Demons), inspired by songwriter and singer Nicos Karvelas and based on the story and lyrics by Stavros Sideras, undoubtedly stirred up the music scene of the country when it was first presented 22 years ago. From Friday the 22nd of March onwards, the remake of the rock opera is hosted at Pallas Theater in Athens. The show is directed by Yiannis Kakleas and the protagonist role is held by singer and show-woman Anna Vissi - as in the past -, portrayed by an exquisite group of singers and actors.

Around two decades ago, when it was first presented to the Greek crowd, it was described as a revolutionary project for the domestic music industry and, possibly, the most important project for the creators themselves. The spectators who had the chance to watch the rock opera back then, state that it was a show they never forgot. Without doubt, the remake is expected to be the absolute talk of the town and beyond, at least as far as the world of the arts is concerned.

16th century. West Europe is undergoing a process of economic and intellectual reform and development. The hunt of the Witches is ongoing, but the Witches alongside the loyal followers of Satan keep up with their secret rituals and their human sacrifices.

And this is how the plot of the show unfolds...
We are located in a European country. A teenage girl is about to be sacrificed in the name of the Lord of Darkness. In the meantime, the army lead by an Inquisitor, intrudes and demands that the Witch is arrested in order to be tortured and confess that she worships Satan. The Witch confesses and the Inquisitor asks for the Queen’s permission to burn her. Although the Queen is very good-hearted, she cannot but do what is right, therefore she gives her consent. Just before her burning, the Witch threatens the Queen by clearly quoting: "I’ll be seeing you in another life".

21st century New York.
Rozanna is an actress and holds the protagonist role in a theatrical play by Shakespeare. Her role is as Queen. Another actress named Loa, plays the Witch. Both girls are in love with Daniel, although he is clearly fonder of Rozanna.
