7th Cycladic Gastronomy Festival in Sifnos

The culinary character of the island of Sifnos is widely known and appreciated even more during this unique gastronomy festival held on an annual basis on the island! The 7th Cycladic Gastronomy Festival "Nikolaos Tselementes" is organized this year at the picturesque and idyllic village of Artemonas and will last three days, attracting visitors from other Cycladic islands and beyond. The island of Sifnos is the birth place of famous cook Nikolaos Tselementes who has proudly presented the most widely used cook book in Greece with unique recipes from all parts of the country. We save the date for the 5th, 6th and 7th of September after 18.30 daily. Each of the three evenings and after 21.30 the festival will be portrayed with traditional music and dances of the island and the Cyclades. Doors are open for absolutely everyone who will be on the island and is willing to indulge in the delicious tastes of the region.

Delegations from the Cycladic islands will be meeting up in Sifnos in order to present visitors with their rich culinary and cultural heritage. Alongside the Cycladic islands, every year the festival is honored by another selected island from the rest of the Aegean Sea which is actually kept as a surprise until the very last minute before the commencement of the festival! Every island exhibits its culinary delights with its own exhibiting stand at the central square of Artemonas, where amateur and professional cooks and chefs prepare and present the delightful recipes of their particular island.

At the festival, you will also find a specially designated corner at the main square, devoted to the "Tselementakia" (children aged 6-12 years), wearing their aprons and their colorful chef caps. Children participate in several cooking games and contests according to their age group. The festival is very rich in parallel activities and this is what makes it so interesting to attend. Don’t miss the various presentations of traditional customs and arts, such as pottery and basketry, as well as the presentation of traditional wedding celebrations and many more.

Parallel events and activities:

• A small bazaar with products and treats from the participating islands (at the main alleyway of Artemonas)

• Folklore exhibition "Giannis Atsonios" (at the main alleyway of Artemonas opposite the Church of Panayia tou Bali)

• Exhibitions of photography, painting etc. (at the Artemonas elementary school)

• Exhibitions of photography, painting etc. (at the Cultural center "Marianthi Simou)
