Spetses: history and scents

You will go for:

The amazing scents: It is also known as the "island of scents» (isola delle spazie), as it was called by the Venetians because of the wonderful aromas of the flowers and the herbs in spring. The Piteoussa of Greek antiquity, is the greenest island in the Saronic Gulf, with its trees beiing in constant conversation with the emerald waters.

Cycling with a tweed costume or without. The annual event of the Tweed Run, which is organized by Poseidonion Grand Hotel is scheduled for April 21-23 and is a good reason to visit the island. Cycling is a habit that suits Spetses. Here, carriages are permitted, but cars are not.

Its rich history. Follow the trail to the churches like that of Armata near the Grove of Navy, with the iron sculptures of Natalia Mela scattered. Visit Agios Nikolaos with the pebbled courtyard, as well as the Museum of Bouboulina.

The interesting spring events. Register in time to participate in Spetsathlon (www.spetsathlon.com), a sporting event that has become a tradition and will be held on 5-7 May.

Easter in Spetses
On Holy Friday night, the Epitaphs of the four churches of the island meet at Poseidonion's square. Young men try to raise the Epitaphs as high as possible and get the blessing.
