Kipi village in Zagori: Superiority stemming back from 1431
Kipi village is situated in the area of Zagori and dates hundreds of years back in the history of the region of Epirus in Northern Greece.
Dating back to 1431, the settlement constituted the centre of Zagori area and a point of reference for the area at large for numerous years.
It is distinguished from other villages for its supreme Mansions. It is known for its plethora of stone built bridges. A visit there becomes appealing to you because although it is only at 38 km from the city of Ioannina, its setting will take you to a different dimension by ascending you to the breathtaking heights of 800 meters above ground...
And when you finally make your way there, do not omit to see the following interesting places:
- Fraggades will attract your interest with the Valeka watermill, the Petsioti stone-built bridge, the church of St. Dimitrios which was constructed in 1779, the monastery of Virgin Mary (Moni Panagias) but also the picturesque traditional springs where you will taste the purest water ever and its stone-paved alleys for an invigorating walk.
- Negades will be of interest for its central church which dates back to 1779 and which contains a gold plated temple decorated with rare hagiographies.
- Koukouli is worthy of your visit, primarily, if you are into architecture and into spotting marvelous buildings, such as Kokori Mansion and Plakida Mansion. Secondly, for its fresh water running springs, the old school building, the Lazaridis Folklore Museum and the church dating back to 1788 - devoted to Virgin Mary (Kimisi tis Theotokou) -.
- Dilofo for its admirable old Mansion houses but to also see Anagnostopoulos School which dates back to the year 1855.
- Kipi village itself, will enchant you with its picturesque setting, the Baya Monastery built in 1841, the church of St. Nikolas built in 1779, Tolis Folklore Museum, Kokoris bridge dating back to 1750, Plakida bridge constructed in 1748 (also named Kaloyeriko) and - last but not least - the bridges of Kondodimos, Lazaridis, Petsoni, Dovri and Merissiou.
