Varousi: Strolling in the traditional neighborhood of Trikala
Let’s take a walk in Varousi, the most traditional neighborhood of Trikala that connects the past with the present. On the outskirts of the city fortress, Varoussi takes us on a romantic journey through time, from the 17th and the 18th century, to Tsitsanis times until today.
Our acquaintance with Trikala should start from here. We surrender to the charm of Varousi and stroll in the narrow streets of Sakaflias. Crossing Varousi, we see the beautiful mansions of the old quarter, built mainly in the 17th and 18th century. During the Turkish occupation it was the Christian quarter and until 1930, it was the most lordly neighborhood of Trikala. Wander across the district which has now been declared as preserved and let the painted with bright colors houses with their elaborate architecture travel you back in time.
